assignment six
Write and send to your tutor an expanded artist’s statement (around 2,000 words) to complement your portfolio of work. In this statement you should write about your own body of work in relation to its art historical precursors and the research you’ve done on the course. Your statement should clearly outline how you chose the initial direction(s) for your research in relation to your own practice and how you honed it down to one or two particular areas for further development.
You should then describe how you created your body of work, all the time drawing on your ongoing research findings. Your learning log will help you to look back and see what you have achieved.
Your artist’s statement should reflect your awareness of your place within art history as a maker of art and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of your chosen area. Ensure you have applied academic conventions in terms of referencing for both written and visual material. Follow the guidelines in the study guide to Harvard referencing which is available to download from the student website.
If your tutor is happy for you to do so, you may take this opportunity to submit any previously unfinished paintings for review alongside your artist’s statement. Prepare your assessment portfolio and send a plan of what you intend to submit for your tutor to review.

Reflection on Tutor feedback
My tutor and I had our final video call to discuss the work I will submit. They agree with my final choices and remarked that they can see how it shows my journey and progression as a painter. Some additional advice was given on the wording of some pieces which I have since edited, and how to organize my work when sending it in my portfolio.
